IATA 2024 Safety Report

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released its annual safety report, stating that while aviation safety has continuously improved in the long term, 2024 saw a slight decline compared to 2023.
According to the report, during the five-year period from 2011 to 2015, an accident occurred on average once every 456,000 flights, whereas in the 2020-2024 period, this rate improved to one accident per 810,000 flights. In 2024, the accident rate per million flights was recorded at 1.13 (one accident every 880,000 flights). While this figure is better than the five-year average of 1.25, it falls behind the 1.09 recorded in 2023.
IATA Director General Willie Walsh commented on the matter, stating, “Despite recent accidents, it is important to remember that aviation accidents remain extremely rare. Every loss of life is one too many. We honor those who have lost their lives in aviation accidents and remain committed to making flights even safer.”
